What is ethmoidal bulla?

The ethmoidal bulla is a small air-filled cavity located inside the ethmoid bone in the human skull, just above the nasal cavity. It is an anatomical variation among individuals and not present in everyone. The bulla serves as a barrier that isolates the ethmoidal cells from the anterior part of the frontal recess. It also helps to filter, humidify, and warm the air before it enters the respiratory tract. The bulla can become inflamed due to a bacterial or viral infection, causing symptoms like facial pain, congestion, and headaches. In some cases, surgical removal of the ethmoidal bulla may be necessary to treat chronic sinusitis or other nasal problems.
